Are there any reducers/timers for showers that I can install - I have 3 children that like the LONG showers?
Timers are available to help and habits can be changed.
There are a number of shower timers available. Most are passive, sounding an alarm when the time has expired, and there are a few that will reduce the flow after a preset time, giving you just enough water to rinse off. There are also some tricks to try and change their habits like scheduling a shower before a favorite TV program starts, timing the shower with a song on the radio, etc. Another option may be to replace your current shower head with a reduced flow unit. A reduced flow shower head is as effective as a standard shower head with much lower flow rates (as low as 1.5 gallons per minute). A reduced flow shower head can save water and energy on everyone's shower while you work on changing their habits. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Savers Web site lists some other tips for lowering your water heating costs.
