Should I remove the old cellulose insulation and seal around all the openings in my attic before adding new blown in fiber glass insulation?

The short answer is yes. Read on for more.

The short answer is yes. Effective attic floor air sealing can reduce fuel use dramatically. The amount depends on several factors that include how many openings there are, how large the openings are, and the type of attic ventilation you have.

Another way to view air sealing is to recognize that you pay for it whether you do it or not. If you don’t do it, you pay for it more often as a result of higher fuel consumption (with reduced comfort).
