Is a site assessment a requirement for a Focus on Energy rebate or can I choose a company that I want to work, based on the estimate.
Assessments by one of our partners or advisors is recommended.
For residential buildings, once you have an energy evaluation by your consultant partnering with Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, he/she will provide recommendations of program contractors to do the work. Our partners have been trained to meet program standards. It is up to you if you would like to use those contractors or find your own. There may even be some work that you would like to do yourself if you have a knack for home improvement. This is why the post-test is so important, to know the work was done correctly and will benefit you and your home with energy and money savings. The post-test and providing work receipts, is what makes you eligible for the Cash-Back Rewards. Your consultant will even take care of the paperwork for you.
For businesses, energy assessments are not required, although highly recommended so you receive maximum energy savings. Simply go to Focus on Energy’s incentives page and send us the required information for the incentive you are applying for. Please keep in mind that if your non-residential project is more complicated and involves a custom incentive, you must work with an energy advisor before beginning or initiating the project.
If you’re planning on installing a renewable energy system, a site assessment is encouraged for solar energy systems, but required for wind energy systems if you plan to apply for a Focus on Energy installation incentive. (Focus will pay up to 50% of the site assessment.) You do need to choose a Focus on Energy Full Service Installer if you plan to apply for a Focus incentive for solar hot water or solar electric systems; and an installer that meets the wind installer criteria if you plan to apply for a Focus wind reward.
