How does green pricing through my utility work?

“Green power" is funded through higher electric rates on your bill.

Utility "green power" rates give customers the option to purchase more of their energy from renewable sources through a higher rate on their electric bill (beyond what the utility is required to provide by the renewable electricity standard*). The higher rate helps fund the added cost to generate electricity from these renewable resources. Use your dollars to show your support for renewable energy and reduce your carbon footprint! Contact your electric provider for details.

*Wisconsin utilities are required to provide 10 percent of their electricity from renewable energy sources by 2015 as part of Wisconsin’s renewable electricity standard, and they are well on their way to meeting this goal. Visit the Public Service Commission’s Web site for more information on Wisconsin’s renewable electricity standard.
