Home Improvement

We have an old home that "bleeds heat" but is very good at retaining cold. (Air conditioner was only on for 3 days this year). We have only had our first home for one winter and can't bear another long cold year like last year. We need to insulate and seal but don't know where to start. Can you help?

Have a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR evaluation.

The best way to begin is by having a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR evaluation completed by a consultant who partners with Focus on Energy. By completing performance testing for air leakage and professionally evaluating the insulation levels, the consultant can help you prioritize where to begin and give you a good idea of the results you can expect to achieve. Your consultant can also provide a written work scope if you are interested in having contractors complete any needed work. After the work is completed, the consultant will return to your home to re-test (at no extra charge). An added “bonus” is Cash-Back Rewards offered through Focus on Energy. You may also be eligible for federal tax credits for energy improvements. To learn the details regarding federal tax credits, I would suggest visiting the ENERGY STAR (R) Web site or the Tax Incentives Assistant Project Web site. These Web sites have information that consumers and businesses need to make use of the federal income tax incentives for energy efficient products and technologies.
