What does it cost to have one of your energy consultants come out and look over our home and offer suggestions?

The cost varies. Read on for more.

The cost to have a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® evaluation varies depending on the size and type of your home, the distance the consultant needs to travel to get to your home, and whether he/she is performing an assessment or a rating (computer-modeled assessment). Generally, it is a few hundred dollars and it includes the pre- and post-test. It is much more detailed than simply “looking over your home and offering suggestions.”

Following the initial three- to four-hour site visit to measure all the components of your home, evaluate the mechanical equipment, evaluate the insulation levels, provide an infrared scan (in most cases), evaluate the windows and doors, conduct a moisture assessment, conduct combustion safety testing (when applicable), and conduct performance testing of your home and mechanical ventilation equipment, a detailed report is prepared by the consultant. This report not only includes recommendations as to what can or should be done to make your home more efficient or resolve particular problems (ice dams, drafty rooms, condensation problems, etc.), but also includes a list of contractors who can install applicable products and/or provide service.

To learn more, contact a consultant in your area or call Focus on Energy at 800.762.7077.
