Do low-e window films actually reduce heat loss/gain? Are the manufacturer's claims accurate?
There is not much information currently.
While this emerging technology seems very promising, there is not much information currently available in the way of documented data/reviews with regards to the effectiveness of low-e window films.
Two organizations that provide reliable, unbiased information regarding windows are the National Fenestration Rating Council and the Efficient Windows Collaborative. There is also a full explanation of low-e glass on the Efficient Windows Collaborative Web site.
