We'd like to convert all of our street lights over to a more energy-efficient lighting source. Initially we were thinking about LED lighting but heard it might not be the best alternative. We are now contemplating induction lighting. Can you please tell me what lighting system and equipment would be best for my community’s outdoor lighting?

There are several options for outdoor lighting.

There are many different lighting systems that may help your community save energy on outdoor lighting including LED, induction, HID, and even fluorescent. A contractor who is experienced in working with exterior lighting should be able to provide you with multiple options and explain the advantages and disadvantages of each. To compare systems, ask for a lighting layout that shows what the light levels and uniformity would be for the site(s). This is something that reputable manufacturers will provide to your contractor to help in the decision process. Be sure to compare light levels, light quality, energy use, rated life, warranty, and project cost for each option to determine which one best fits the needs of your community. There are many ways to save energy and provide good quality light, but no silver bullets.
