What kind of incentives is Wisconsin offering for windspires? Are the energy companies obligated to buy excess energy generated by a personal product such as a windspire?

Focus doesn’t offer incentives for vertical axis wind turbines.

Focus on Energy is currently not offering any incentives for vertical axis wind turbines. Focus incentives are based on annual energy output, and to date (July 2009), it has not been possible to obtain accurate estimates of electricity production from vertical axis and small rooftop wind systems, and little objective documentation exists to support their effectiveness. Please read more on this topic from wind energy expert Mick Sagrillo in our fact sheet, Small rooftop wind turbines: Common questions and answers.

You can investigate other incentive options, including federal tax credits and net metering. Investor-owned and municipal utilities in Wisconsin are required by the Public Service Commission to offer net metering for distributed-generation systems, including renewables, up to 20 kilowatts (kW) in capacity. Please contact your utility directly for further information.
