How do I calculate how many wind turbine, solar panels and batteries I need?

Get a site assessment!

Focus on Energy recommends having a certified site assessor visit to determine if your site is a good location for a solar electric, solar water heating or wind electric systems. The certified site assessor can provide in-depth information about your specific location, to include an analysis of your energy usage and opportunities for energy efficiency and savings. Your site assessor will be able to help you calculate the size of your potential system based on your needs and goals. Costs for site assessments vary depending on the type and complexity of the renewable energy system. Focus on Energy will provide eligible customers with a 50% discount on the cost of a solar energy or residential wind energy site assessment.

Reducing the amount of energy you require will greatly reduce the size and cost of your renewable energy system. You can do this by installing the most efficient products and equipment in your home. Buying only ENERGY STAR qualified appliances and lighting, installing a high efficiency hot water heater and furnace with an electronically commutated motor (ECM) and ensuring your central air conditioner is at least a SEER 15, as well as having a home energy evaluation will all go a long way in making your home as energy efficient as possible.

Keep in mind: in order to be eligible for Focus on Energy funding for your wind and solar power systems, you would need to have an active electric meter on site with service from a participating utility.
