What is the potential for wind energy to become a major part of Wisconsin's total energy sources?
90% of WI’s renewable electricity standard may come from wind.
Wisconsin utilities are required to provide 10 percent of their electricity from renewable energy sources by 2015. Wisconsin's utilities are well on their way to meeting this goal. 90 percent of this renewable electricity standard for Wisconsin is expected to come from wind energy systems. While most of the wind energy will be produced by larger wind developments (wind parks), small wind energy systems can also make a substantial contribution to the total renewable electricity supply. Although small wind turbines are currently a small market, there is substantial market growth potential that will see more Wisconsin homes, businesses, schools, and government facilities installing small wind energy systems in partnership with Focus on Energy. You can learn more about the renewable energy standard by visiting the Public Service Commission's Website.
