As a teacher, how can I perform an energy audit on our school with my students? What are the steps involved? We are interested in studying our school's energy consumption and figuring out ways to reduce it and save.

Focus and KEEP offer great resources for the classroom.

The next step is to ensure your school district has not completed an energy assessment already. Ideally we would want to find out your location and if any other staff members are and/or have been working with Focus already.

Another great resource available is the K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP). Visit KEEP’s Web site for details about hands-on, minds-on activities that make the topic of energy understandable and engaging for students of all ages and teachers. KEEP offers professional development and networking opportunities, student involvement activities, and resources for educators to use in their classrooms.

In addition, there is a great Energy-Use Self Audit that can be found online. The self assessment is designed to be a quick and easy way to create a basic inventory of the major energy-consuming equipment in your facility.
