Are infrared heaters a good option?
Space heaters are not a cost-effective of heating your home.
Space heaters, infrared or otherwise, are not a cost-effective way of heating your home and can be dangerous if left unattended or used improperly. An infrared heater will heat the object in the "sight" of the heater but not heat the air between the heater and the object. Infrared heaters are often used in commercial applications to heat a small work area in a large room or with high ceilings. This allows the entire space to be kept unconditioned but keep the person comfortable, as long as they stay in "sight" of the infrared. In a home the spaces are smaller and people tend not to stay in one place as long, limiting the effectiveness and cost-savings of an infrared space heater.
