Is it worth it to replace my windows with more energy efficient ones?

It can be worth it, but it might not be necessary.

Energy efficient windows are a great investment when you must replace a window. ENERGY STAR qualified windows are tailored to specific climate zones. These windows typically have two or more panes, improved framing materials and Low-E coating which keeps heat inside during the winter and outside during the summer.

But if you're considering new windows because you want to save energy or to reduce drafts, there are other effective solutions that will pay for themselves much faster. These may include improved insulation, caulking around windows or adding interior or exterior storm windows. If you're not sure where to start, hire a consultant through Focus on Energy's Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program to find out how to invest your money to save energy and make your home more comfortable.
