How low should I set my programmable thermostat during the day for greatest efficiency? I set it at 68 when I'm home and 64 overnight. One friend suggested 64, and another 55! What do you suggest?

Focus recommends 68° when home. Read on for more.

When you are home you will want to set the thermostat to a temperature that will keep you comfortable; Focus recommends 68° in the heating season. If you are going to be away for at least 8 hours, you should set the thermostat back 5 degrees.

If you are going to be away for an extended period of time, say for a weekend, you can set the thermostat back even further. However, greater variances may not save a substantial amount of energy and may create issues with condensation on windows.

In heating mode, reducing your thermostat setting by one degree for eight hours will save about one percent on your heating bill. Learn more about how to set your thermostat by visiting the Focus Web site.
