Heating and Cooling

Everything I read says that you should turn down your thermostat during times of inactivity in the house. My house is heated completely by hot water (from an electric water heater) radiant floor heating. Is it still a good idea to turn the system down during times of inactivity?

Turning down the thermostat will save you money.

Turning down the thermostat will save you money, but the issue may be comfort. A forced-air heating system has the ability to rapidly change the temperature in the house, while a radiant heating system may take longer to recover from a temperature setback. If you have a programmable thermostat, try setting the system back earlier and bringing the temperature back earlier so the house will cool sooner after you leave and be warm by the time you return.
