When will residential natural gas condensing water heaters be available? Information on the internet says "mid-2010" but we're ready to buy a new water heater any time now - should we wait?
They’re available now, in both tank and tankless models.
There are condensing water heaters available for residential applications, in both tank and tankless models now. A list of pre-qualified units can be found on the Focus on Energy Web site.
The tank-type units found on the pre-qualified list are classified by the Department of Energy (DOE) as commercial water heaters rather than residential water heaters because their input British Thermal Unit (BTU) is so high. However, these units are commonly installed in residences.
