What if any programs are available for nonprofits to be able to do residential building energy audits?

Get involved with Home Performance with ENERGY STARĀ®

Consultants partnering with Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® help homeowners identify energy-saving opportunities; help solve home energy efficiency, comfort, combustion safety, and building durability problems through troubleshooting; and make appropriate corrective recommendations. In addition, consultants coordinate work with program contractors to facilitate the completion of recommended improvements. Compensation is a combination of fee for service paid by the customer and program Cash-Back Rewards for encouraging customers to improve their homes. Consultants are independent contractors.
Consultants are required to have:
1. A strong building science background, including:
a. Knowledge of how heat, moisture, and air flows within buildings
b. Knowledge of general building materials, terms, and practices
c. Diagnostic and troubleshooting skills related to home heating, cooling, and air quality problems
2. Two (2) years previous work experience in home inspection, performance testing of homes, residential construction, or a related field
3. Mathematical, analytical, calculation, and drawing skills
4. Entrepreneurial and small business management skills or experience
5. Strong verbal communication skills
6. A demonstrated ability to provide quality customer service
7. A working and reliable home computer with internet and e-mail access, and basic software skills
8. Access to reliable transportation
9. A minimum availability of 5-10 hours/week to provide services
10. Proof of Liability Insurance Coverage

Candidates must complete a pre-evaluation and background information survey in order to be considered. Trainings are offered twice per year, with enrollment capped at 10 students per class. The training costs $1,500 and is two weeks in length.
