What is the recommended R-value for attic insulation?

We recommend an R-value of 50 or greater for northern Wisconsin. In addition to the insulation, air sealing the floor of the attic before you insulate is highly recommended. In fact, you will pay for air sealing whether you have it done or not, due to increased fuel consumption. You can learn more about recommended R-values at the ENERGY STAR® Web site.
