LEDs are more energy-efficient.

Because incandescent and halogen bulbs create light through heat, about 90% of the energy they emit is in the form of heat. This makes them a less efficient light source than compact fluorescents or LEDs (light emitting diodes). LEDs, thrive in outdoor environments because of their durability and performance in cold weather. Look for ENERGY STAR® LED products such as pathway lights, step lights, and porch lights for outdoor use.
