We use 250-watt light bulbs to warm baby chicks. Is there an energy efficient alternative bulb we could use?
Unfortunately not for this use.
Thanks for your interest in energy efficiency. Energy-efficient light bulbs produce light differently than incandescent bulbs and because of this difference, produce 75 percent less heat than standard bulbs. Unfortunately, because you are using the bulbs for heat, and not light, there is not an energy-efficient bulb available that will generate the amount of heat you need to keep the baby chicks warm.
