Our church is looking to become green. The first step appears to be an energy audit. How do you know an energy auditing service is reputable? How much should it cost? Does Focus on Energy provide any cost assistance?
Ask for a list of references.
Since there are no required certifications for energy auditors, one of the best ways to determine whether an energy auditing service is reputable is to ask for a list of customer references. You can then contact several references to find out how current customers feel about the quality and value of the service provided. Audit costs will vary depending on the square footage of your building(s), the level of service (basic vs. comprehensive), and the auditor’s years of experience in the field.
Focus on Energy may be able to provide a free basic energy audit if your church has a school. If your church does not have a school, a complimentary audit would not be provided however, an energy advisor will be able to provide free information, expert advice, and other resources at no cost to help your meet your energy-efficiency goals. If you plan to conduct an energy audit, you may want to consult your local utility to see if they offer assistance.
In addition, Focus highly recommends that you visit the congregation section of the ENERGY STAR® website to learn more about energy efficiency and renewable energy.
