Meet the Focus on Energy experts:

Doug Dettlaff

Focus on Energy’s resident heating-and-cooling expert has been helping customers and contractors make smart equipment purchases since 2000. Doug’s experience enables him to identify and recommend practical solutions that improve comfort and decrease energy costs. In addition, Doug writes articles for the quarterly ENERGY STAR® newsletter for retailers to keep them up to date on the latest technologies and industry trends. When he’s not educating himself and others about furnaces, boilers, air conditioners and water heaters, Doug volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that builds houses together in partnership with families in need.

Kevin Hogan

Kevin Hogan has been making homes more efficient and comfortable for over 20 years. Knowledgeable and neighborly, Kevin lives and works by the “TIC” rule: tenacity, integrity, consistency. Which is just one of the reasons he earned a “consultant of the year” award in 2005. As an expert on energy-efficient homes, Kevin enjoys solving comfort issues such as ice dams, window condensation and drafts through the use of professional diagnostic tools and his vast knowledge of building-science principles. He’s a firm believer that sharing good information is one of the most important functions that he, as an energy professional, can offer homeowners and contractors.

Bill Schutten

As a renewable energy enthusiast, Bill Schutten takes great satisfaction in helping discover the benefits of clean, renewable energy. Bill serves as the information source for customers interested in installing renewable energy systems and works closely with the contractors who serve these markets. But his passion for renewable energy didn’t start at Focus on Energy. Bill’s penchant for sustainability began when working on his family’s organic produce and beef farm, and his service as a Peace Corps volunteer instilled strong ethics in land conservation. Those values combined with interest in science and technology were what led him to renewable energy.

He has presented at the ACEEE conference, Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) Energy Fair, Green Energy Summit, and the Wisconsin State Lions Club Convention. When he’s not helping customers and contractors learn more about their renewable energy options, he participates as a member of the MREA and the American Solar Energy Society. Bill can also be found buzzing around his local community garden helping grow organic veggies or tending to his beehives.

Ken Williams

As one of Focus on Energy’s leaders, Ken Williams brings valuable insight into the many ways commercial, industrial, agricultural, and school and government customers can reduce their energy needs while saving money and increasing productivity. With executive-level experience at Fortune 500 companies and more than 25 years of sales, marketing and business management experience, Ken understands how companies operate and what they can do to improve their bottom lines. When he’s not helping Wisconsin businesses save energy and money, Ken helps Madison-area residents find energy efficient and environmentally healthy homes through his “green” real estate company.
